It's really encouraging that quitting smoking is on the radar β€” and honestly, the body feeling ill when smoking is sometimes its way of saying "enough is enough." With a heart functioning at 35%, quitting smoking is one of the most impactful steps that can be taken.

Here's what quitting smoking can do for heart health:

- Blood pressure and heart rate can begin to improve shortly after quitting
- The risk of further heart complications starts to drop over time
- Blood flow improves, which helps a struggling heart work less hard
- The risk of dangerous blood clots decreases gradually The 14mg nicotine patch is a great tool to help ease cravings. Some people also find nicotine gum helpful alongside a patch plan. Every single tobacco-free day is a genuine win for the heart.

As one MyHeartDiseaseTeam member shared, "I quit smoking cold turkey last month, and just wish I did it sooner."

That said, feeling extremely ill is something to flag with a doctor right away β€” especially with a heart at 35%. Please don't wait on that conversation. πŸ’™
