Members shared how cold weather significantly impacts their heart disease, with many experiencing shortness of breath, chest pain, arrhythmias, and faster fatigue when exposed to cold temperatures. Several members described practical strategies that have helped them manage these symptoms, including layering clothing to protect the chest, wearing masks or scarves over the nose and mouth to warm the air before breathing it in, using nitroglycerin for cold-induced angina, limiting outdoor time especially below 30-40 degrees, and pre-warming their cars before driving. A recurring theme was the importance of listening to your body and respecting your individual limits, as cold air constricts blood vessels and forces the heart to work harder, with many members noting that symptoms worsened after COVID and that both extreme cold and extreme heat can trigger cardiac issues.

I add layers of clothing and put those old covid masks to good use covering my face and nose protecting them from the cold. "Cold temperatures cause our blood vessels to constrict. As a result, our blood circulation becomes poor which limits the availability of oxygen to many parts of the body. Your heart then has to work extra hard to pump blood." So heart disease peeps please limit your outside adventures during the cold weather! Hugs!

Stay out of that cold as much as you can. It causes the blood vessels to constrict making it difficult for your heart to pump blood through.

I am more prone to an arrhythmia when it is cold and the arrhythmia lasts for several days. It seems like the cold air is a trigger so I try and keep warm.
