My doctors didn't allow me back to work after my health changed in October 2022 and I am still not able to work so I applied for my SSI and have been denied each time and I don't have any health insurance since I'm not working I lost the health insurance and lucky I did pay into a long term disability plan when I was working that gives me some finance monthly but not enough to cover my needs as when I worked I've applied for financial assistance through the hospital to help with my doctor visits… read more

My Medicare just informed me that I’ll be loosing my Medicaid
The end of January 2027
I don’t know exactly how I’ll
Be paying for my meds
The state claims I’m well off !
What a joke !
I wish that was the case !

As of now I’m paying medical bills
I’m only paying what I can afford right now a little each month
The state has these stupid
Guardian lines !
They have told me due to my
Income I can pool the over income
They will pay what bills I tell them to

I have a serious trust issue
With people
They tell you one thing & it turns
Out incorrect !
So I’m at the point I don’t know
What to believe anymore ??

First, it's clear how exhausting and frustrating this journey has been — navigating a system that feels like it's working against you while managing your heart condition is genuinely overwhelming. You are absolutely not alone in feeling this way.

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam member once shared: *"Tried to go back to work today but almost blacked out just standing and being a cashier"* — a reminder that heart disease is a very real barrier to working, and the system should recognize that. Here are some things that may help:

On SSI Denials:
- Being denied doesn't mean it's over — many people are denied multiple times before being approved
- Each denial comes with appeal rights, and appealing is often more successful than reapplying fresh
- Your cardiologist's documentation is critical — make sure they clearly describe how your condition limits your ability to perform daily activities

On the attorney concern:
- Disability attorneys typically work on contingency, meaning they only get paid if you win — usually a capped percentage of back pay
- You pay nothing upfront, so it's less about "paying someone" and more about having a knowledgeable advocate in your corner
- A qualified attorney knows exactly what medical evidence is needed and how to navigate appeals

On medications:
- Ask your doctors about patient assistance programs directly through drug manufacturers — many offer free or reduced-cost medications for people in financial hardship

On health insurance:
- Look into Healthcare.gov — losing job-based insurance qualifies as a life event, which may allow enrollment outside the standard window

The SSA can also point you toward local legal aid services at no cost. You can reach them weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators). You've worked hard and paid into this system — keep pushing, because the benefits you've earned are worth fighting for.

I have never heard of any such thing. Do you have afib or some other rythm disturbance. Or COPD? If so check out C-SNP. If you are eligible it will pay your medicare premiums and I think it will help with meds. God bless and good luck.

Hi LucindaSmithEvans,
You can appeal the denial. I was told they will deny 3 times, which they did and finally I was approved and everything was retroactive from the first time I applied. It took awhile, but the wait was worth it. God Bless You in Everything You Do. 💖🙏🏾
