How can marijuana use affect heart health?

Research shows smoking marijuana can pose significant risks for people with heart disease. Within the first hour after smoking, there is a five times higher risk of having a heart attack. The immediate effects include increased heart rate and elevated blood pressure, which can be particularly dangerous for those with heart conditions. Marijuana may also contribute to inflammation in blood vessels, which can lead to atherosclerosis. Studies of people aged 40-69 who smoked marijuana showed higher levels of inflammatory markers in their blood within three hours of use.

If considering marijuana use with heart disease, it's essential to have an open discussion with your healthcare provider first. They can help monitor for negative effects and may suggest safer alternatives like CBD, or develop an appropriate management plan based on your specific heart condition.
