Talloven, I was on Dofetilide for about 3 years, they started me on it after cardioversions and other medications did not hold the heart in rhythm. Had to spend 4 day inpatient in the hospital 24/7 heart rhythm monitoring for proper dosing. I was on metropol 100 bid before all of the afib that was one of the first meds they cut to maximum dosage (ep stated) allowed of 50mg bid after the ablation and discontinuation of the tykosen (dofetilide) they went with toprol xl 100mg daily (extended release metropol). My understanding was Tykosen is anti-arrhythmic dug of choice due to side effects but best working drug.

I have been on metoprolol since 2007, have had no problems, started out 25mg a day, now taking 25 mg twice a day. It appears to be working, along with all the other medicines.
