I am glad you changed doctors! Sometimes, instead of saying they don't know, they say something generic, rather than letting us know they don't know it all. Sometimes we get lucky and a doctor can admit they are in over their head (like my electro psychologist), and they refer you to someone who can help you and understands your condition. We know a lot more these days than when our ancestors were suffering from heart-related illnesses. We are by far the lucky ones.
My mother died from congestive heart failure. She knew nothing about HOCM and I don't know my ancestors history. This was a nice video with updated info for me. Back in 2012 when the diagnosis came, I asked the cardio man where it comes from and why I got it. It's funny, contrary to the video he said it could be from 50 different things. He said it wasn't genetic and he said it wasn't hereditary. *Note, he is not my cardio man these days :)
@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member You are most welcome. I guess your mom did not know that this was in the family. She was probably fine, but those before her probably never knew what was wrong. We know a lot more than we did even 10 years ago. Do a search on YouTube to learn as much as you can about it so that you can ask the doctor questions next time you go. Look at the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic videos; they will explain a lot about treatments. Don't forget to take time to enjoy the life you do have. You have heart disease, you are not your heart disease. Hugs 🤗
