I used to be an American Heart Assn spokesperson in Texas. The local office would set me up to go speak about heart disease in women. Went to schools, (even grade schools), social groups, workplaces, anywhere they asked me to come. Even r ceived a plaque from the local community college a couple of weeks after I spoke to students and teachers. Would love to volunteer to do this again. My father died of heart disease and I am also a survivor.

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member Wow, so cool that you were a heart association spokesperson. We have volunteer opportunities right here on this site. Let me have one of the site managers reach out to you and see if we can find a good fit for you. I am a volunteer here and an Ambassador for the site. It is exciting to have you here. I am sorry the route you had to take to get here. 🤗

How can people raise awareness about heart disease and its effects?
One of the best ways to raise awareness is to first educate yourself about heart disease, including its causes, symptoms, and treatment options. This knowledge will help you better communicate with others about the condition and its impacts on daily life.
Being active in awareness activities is another great approach. This could include participating in heart disease walks/runs, fundraising events, or creating your own unique awareness activities that match your interests and abilities. Supporting organizations like the American Heart Association through donations or volunteer work can also make a meaningful impact. Sharing personal experiences can be powerful in raising awareness. Many people find that discussing their journey with heart disease helps others understand the daily challenges and importance of heart health. However, remember to practice self-care and set boundaries - sharing personal health experiences can be emotionally demanding, so it's important to know your limits.
For staying active while managing heart disease, working with healthcare providers to develop a safe exercise plan is crucial. They can help design appropriate activity levels that support heart health while considering individual limitations and needs.
