I enjoyed my beer on the weekends. Well last time I enjoyed beer was the night before my heart attack when I had 6 -2.5% alcohol beers. I have had a few zero alcohol beers but they are super high in carbs. So now I am the designated driver lol

There is a current scientific study going around that concludes red wine may be good for the heart. Nothing like hard facts. I've enjoyed "drinks" most of my life. I studied the subject when about 21 and concluded that most drinking related problems were actually from drinkers poor nutricin. I lookedfurther after Afib and decided it wasn't a heart problem for me. I did decide it might have a negative impact on brain/memory. About the same time my wife started taking Mounjaro. After 3 months her blood sugar and A1c were normal and she was no longer considered pre-diabedic. Side effects were weight loss and losing her tast for "booz." We both have have pretty given up except for light social.

I did have a shot of Irish Wisky for st pattys day. And will probably have another next year. πŸ‘

I quit drinking alcohol in April 2010 as I was given a medication and was told by the Neurologist to not drink any alcohol as "it would cause seizures" I figured I would be on it for a short time and quit drinking (wine, beer, spirits). Two and half years later I was finally off the medication (gained 47 pounds which was a side effect) but I was pain free. Paleo diet reduced the weight to where I was at prior to taking the medication. Cannot prove it messed up my stomach but to this day I still have gut issues. The new medication that I received was "Lyrica". If you are ever prescribed this medication proceed with caution. I did try drinking wine, or beer, or Bailey's Irish Cream and all of them gave me an upset stomach so I have been alcohol free to close to 15 years.

While that article focuses on digestion, alcohol actually has significant effects on heart health that are important to understand. Excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. One particularly serious condition is alcoholic cardiomyopathy, where long-term heavy drinking changes the heart's shape and can lead to heart failure. The combination of alcohol with other substances can be especially dangerous for heart health. For example, mixing alcohol with energy drinks can be particularly risky as both substances can raise blood pressure, potentially increasing the severity of existing heart disease. Additionally, alcohol can damage other organs that affect heart health and, combined with high sugar intake, may increase the risk of developing conditions that complicate heart disease management.
