Because the heart must beat steady to ensure a steady amount of blood goes to the brain, having a heart with AFib can damage the brain. When a person is in AFib either the heart sends to the brain, too much blood, or not enough blood. This, too little blood, can damage the brain.
I have AFib and fear this more than death. The thing is that when brain damage starts, the person is unaware of it. They don’t know they are not okay. A person can have a lot of brain damage and not know it. If the damage gets worse, the person may realize something is wrong.
I can also say this— how much brain damage is also limited to the life we live. If you don’t smoke, or drink alcohol, the brain damage will be less. Also, get exercise. I am just as bad as anyone else at ignoring my own advice. It is very difficult to give up smoking or drinking. When you get older, it is hard to enjoy exercise. I have someone close to me that has promised to tell me if I show symptoms of brain damage. Otherwise, I just enjoy my life and leave this all to God. It is always in His hands.

Aloha Linda and DeeDee! I have severe a fib. I have had every possible procedure done to reverse it but none have been successful. And I am done with doing those things. I do take Coreg to help my heart not to work so hard. It does great to help my heart but it makes me the absolute image of a Blonde airhead! These side effects of Coreg could definitely be confused with brain damage. Or as my six graders would call it, Drain Bramage! I have let my friends know to correct me when I come across as being ditzy. Often I don’t realize it! There is a test the psychologist give to check on a person’s possible brain damage. I can’t remember a series of words, and repeat them in reverse. The 3 word longer time to hold in memory is ridiculous! What 3 words? And then to ask you to count backwards from 100 by 7’s ! You have got to be kidding! I was never able to do that! DeeDee and Linda, my new friends! You try to do that subtraction in your head! Just goes to prove you don’t have brain damage. You might be cognitively slower, but you can still do it! At this point in time you just would tell the psychologist or whoever is giving you this test to bug off !
I hope I have helped, or at least maybe put a smile on your face because you’re not worrying so much! Worry is bad for you! Trust me I am a professional worry warrior! You need to let go and let God handle it! Good Lord willing, and the creek don’t rise! Is what I like to answer people when they asked me about what’s gonna happen about my health! 🤟🏽🙏🏽🤟🏽🙏🏽

Thankfully not. Does it happen due to injury, or an serious operation going wrong?
