Mitral Valve Surgery
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was supposed to have mitral valve surgery last July and doctors will not do it because of some bad teeth. My Doctor never even really mentioned it until I was waiting in the pre op room waiting for my surgery. I waited over 5 hours not knowing why my surgery was not happening. Then finally the cardiac surgeon came in and told me he had to do an emergency surgery in another patient and said you need to have some of your teeth removed. I had all my testing done. Has this situation ever happen… read more

Options?

Unnecessary over-servicing for financial gain

I am considering finding another cardiologist. Without asking me, he popped a gadget on my chest to test for cardiac arrhythmia. After keeping me waiting for 10 days, the result was as expected, "normal". He charged me R2500 for the instrument that the medical aid does not fund. I think he's over-servicing for financial gain.

What can I do about it?

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

“Among patients with device-detected AF (no symptoms; detected by a watch or other device), stroke risk is lower than that of patients with symptomatic AF. The recommendations for device-detected AF vary by duration of AF as well as by CHA2DS2-VASc score. See the guidelines if you are interested in more information on this fascinating topic.“
