Actually from my research, getting an absolutely correct diagnosis is vital if you have any type of cardiomyopathy. Iron overload cardiomyopathy is actually reversible if caught early enough. Sadly my husband's wasn't and the doctors are refusing any further treatment saying that he is non compliant with his treatment regimen, yet they have not done a cardiac MRI, nor have they done any genetic testing for hemochromatosis which his Father was at least a carrier of at the minimum. I suspect that my husband has two bad genes, due to the fact that his half brother on his mother's side also has an enlarged heart. My husband is Dutch/ Irish decent which hemochromatosis is commonly found in people of northern European ancestry.
