My doctor recommended Camzyos for my OHCM. I'm a little skeptical because of the side affects. If anyone using the medication care to comment on it whether they recommend it or not and why. I would appreciate it hearing it from patients using it. One doctor tells me because of the side affects not to use it. Other doctors recommend it. Confuse and nervous about it.

It's completely understandable to feel confused and nervous when doctors give different opinions β€” that's a tough spot to be in! Here's some helpful context about Camzyos (mavacamten) for obstructive HCM (oHCM).

Camzyos belongs to a newer class of drugs called cardiac myosin inhibitors. It works by helping the heart muscle relax and reducing the obstruction that's characteristic of oHCM. It was the first drug of its kind approved by the FDA specifically for this condition. Because it's a newer medication, some doctors may be more cautious about it than others β€” which could explain the differing opinions. A few things worth knowing:

- It's specifically approved for oHCM, meaning it was designed with this condition in mind
- Like all medications, it carries potential risks and side effects worth discussing in detail with your cardiologist
- A second opinion from an HCM specialist at a center experienced in treating HCM can be really valuable when doctors disagree

Getting care from doctors and medical centers with specific HCM experience is strongly recommended, as they'll be most familiar with newer treatments like Camzyos. The most important step is having an open, detailed conversation with your cardiologist about the specific side effects that concern you and whether they apply to your personal health situation. Asking "what are the risks for *me* specifically?" can help cut through the confusion.

Other MyHeartDiseaseTeam members have shared their own experiences with HCM treatments in the community, so browsing those conversations may also give you some real-world patient perspectives to consider.
