When living with heart disease, meal timing and consistency actually matter more than many people realize. Skipping meals β€” including breakfast β€” can lead to overeating later, blood sugar swings, and making less heart-healthy food choices when hunger finally kicks in.

Eating only when hungry might sound intuitive, but hunger cues can sometimes lead to grabbing whatever is convenient, which isn't always great for your heart. Here are some tips to help keep meals consistent and heart-healthy:

- Plan meals ahead so you always have something nutritious ready to eat
- Keep grab-and-go snacks like unsalted nuts, seeds, or fresh fruit on hand
- Prep meals on weekends to make weekday eating easier
- Stock your freezer with healthy options like vegetables for quick meals
- Use a meal-tracking app to stay on top of nutrition throughout the day

The goal is to keep your heart working as efficiently as possible, and steady, planned eating supports that. It's always worth checking with your doctor about what meal schedule works best for your specific situation.
