Are you still experiencing shortness of breath three weeks after getting a pacemaker?
It's understandable to feel concerned when breathlessness continues after your procedure. While pacemakers help regulate heart rhythm, shortness of breath can persist for several reasons.
Possible reasons for ongoing shortness of breath:
- Your pacemaker may need adjustment or programming changes
- The device might not be positioned optimally
- Your heart condition itself may be causing the breathlessness
- You could be experiencing fluid buildup in the lungs
- There may be other heart-related complications developing
What you should do:
Contact your cardiologist right away to discuss this symptom. They can check if your pacemaker is functioning properly and positioned correctly. Sometimes a simple adjustment to the device settings can make a significant difference.
Your doctor may also want to evaluate whether the shortness of breath is related to your underlying heart condition rather than the pacemaker itself. Don't wait for your next scheduled follow-up if breathing difficulties are affecting your daily activities.
