@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member I agree with Bob, slow up some and if you need to stop and catch your breath, go ahead and do that. 🤗

Try to slowing your pace, fight a pace, that does not tax you breathing so hard, and gradually increase the amount you walk. The caveat is, discuss this with you doctor first, he/she can point you in the right direction to start.

Why does walking make breathing hard with heart disease?
It's understandable to feel scared when breathing becomes difficult during walking. This happens because heart disease can make it harder for your heart to pump oxygen-rich blood through your body. When the heart struggles, blood can back up into the lungs, causing shortness of breath.
Here's how to handle it:
* Slow down your pace - Many people find that walking at a slower, easier pace instead of their usual speed helps them go longer distances without getting as breathless
* Take breaks as needed - Rest when you need to and don't push through severe breathlessness
* Stay hydrated - Drink water before walking
* Avoid hot days - Heat can make symptoms worse
* Stop if symptoms worsen - If you start feeling very short of breath during exercise, stop and contact your healthcare team
Important steps to take:
Talk to your doctor about what you're experiencing. They can help determine if your heart disease treatment needs adjustment or if cardiac rehabilitation might help. They may also give you specific guidelines about when and how to exercise safely.
If you experience severe chest pain, sudden extreme shortness of breath, or wake up gasping for air, seek emergency medical help right away.
