Is coffee good for your heart?
Research shows that drinking caffeinated coffee and tea in moderation is generally considered safe for people with heart conditions. However, it's important to talk with your doctor about how much caffeine is appropriate for your specific situation.
While moderate coffee consumption appears safe, chronic high caffeine intake may heighten cardiovascular disease risk. The key is moderation and personalized guidance from your healthcare provider.
The healthiest way to drink coffee with heart disease:
- Keep it moderate - don't overdo caffeine consumption
- Avoid adding excessive sugar, which can negatively impact heart health
- Skip high-calorie additions that add empty calories
- Stay hydrated, as caffeine doesn't actually dehydrate you despite common myths
- Consider timing - don't let coffee interfere with sleep, which is crucial for heart health
Coffee doesn't raise your risk for heart rhythm problems according to research, but everyone's heart condition is different. What works for one person may not work for another, so checking with your cardiologist about your individual caffeine limits is the smartest approach.

First thing sugar got dropped in was morning coffee so I became quite use to not having any sweetened coffee. I dropped all sweetened flavorings that go into coffees shortly after. All this was done because of the heart attack. I followed up with changing out the diet so it became more healthy with fruit and vegetables. My daily eating habits kept having positive changes made to them under cardiologist guidance as medication was changed. I am doing wonderful working with my current cardiologist as she is very helpful with her caring, medical guidance, and helpful medical knowledge to ensure my health stays well.
