Can a brisk walk after a meal improve your heart health?

Yes, walking after meals can support your heart health! Regular walking offers several cardiovascular benefits that are particularly helpful when living with heart disease.

Walking helps in these ways:

* Reduces cholesterol levels
* Lowers blood pressure
* Improves artery health
* Helps maintain a healthy weight
* Improves mood and reduces stress

Research shows that even modest amounts of walking make a difference. For each additional 1,000 steps per day (up to about 10,000), people experienced lower risks of heart problems, including heart failure and stroke. Walking at a brisker pace brought even greater benefits.

The good news is you don't need to aim for 10,000 steps right away. Even increasing from 2,300 to 3,000 steps daily shows measurable heart health improvements.

Before starting any new exercise routine, talk with your doctor to determine what's safe and appropriate for your specific condition. They can help you set a personalized activity goal that matches your abilities and current health status.

If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness while walking, discuss these symptoms with your care team right away.
