Laura, the thickening causes your heart to work harder. There are a lot of reasons the heart walls thicken. High blood pressure, valve issues, heart failure, genetic disposition, or restricted blood flow to the heart, to name a few. This causes shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, tiredness, it can cause some palpitations and swelling in the feet and legs (known as edema). Since there are many reasons for this, it is best to discuss it with your doctor and figure out ways to alleviate the symptoms and find ways for you to live more comfortably. I hope this helps. ❤️
Thickening of the heart, known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), makes it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively. The thickened heart walls become stiff and less flexible, which can prevent the left ventricle from properly filling with blood and efficiently pumping oxygen-rich blood to the body.
