While standard cholesterol tests (lipid panels) are important for assessing heart disease risk, there are several other blood tests that can provide additional insights into heart health. These include:

C-reactive protein (CRP), which measures inflammation levels in the body and can indicate increased heart disease risk. Troponin tests can detect recent heart damage, while Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels rise when the heart is damaged. A newer test measuring plasma ceramides can also help identify elevated heart disease risk. These blood tests, along with other diagnostic tools like electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and stress tests, help create a more complete picture of heart health. Early detection through comprehensive testing allows for better management and treatment options. While heart disease cannot be reversed completely, identifying risk factors early through various testing methods can help slow its progression when combined with appropriate lifestyle changes and medical treatments.
