Hi 4 year ago i got chest pain ,went to hospital and had angiogram , circumflex was blocked so had a stent , cardiolegist recomended triple buypas because i had 3 90 percent blocked other arteris , but also told me i have a good back up system they saw good collaterels , ive hade no angina for years , do collaterels last thanks
He was referring to smaller blood vessels that developed naturally to bypass a blocked area. They aren't as large as the blood vessel but they do allow some blood to get around the blocked area. And unless THEY, themselves, get blocked by plaque, they will last your lifetime. Keep in mind that they are much smaller. Not as much blood as needed will get through it. But it would increase your chance of survival as it can minimize the amount of damage.
