A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

For Medical Monday this week, one of our newer members was telling me about a procedure they had called a Septal Ablation w/alcohol.
Because I am curious, I wanted to know more figured you would too. Christopher D. Nielsen, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Medical University of South Carolina, discusses hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and alcohol septal ablation. Alcohol is injectedinto the thickened area causing the cells to shrink and die. Thinning the tissue allows the blood to move through the heart more freely alleviating HCM. Less invasive then open heart surgery and patient recovers more quickly.
