It depends somewhat on which type of afib you have I just had My 2nd ablation 1st was 2018, 2nd was about 40 days ago, many of the orginal nodes targeted in the 1st one had reestablished connections My afib has always been difficult for me to detect though It seems to be triggered with gastro situations like eating later and a certain amount of stress or anxiety ( i never knew that really was in my life until heart disease kicked in ) so One thing with an ablation is the risk of stroke due to clotting blood , They will put you on and anticoagulant of some sort and expect to remain on one for a long term the Pradaxa, Elliquis Xarellto types as opposed to the Warfarin, Coumadin, ones that cause loads of bruising and require you to monitor and eat specificly... though The newer meds can cause bruising as well typically less ,... for most folks and then comes bleeding cutting yourself shaving or doing anything with time becomes a pain if you get a tooth pulled or anything surgical you need to perhaps stop the anticogulant a couple days prior to help reduce the issue of bleeding ,,,, During an Ablation there can be risk of the Cath tearing an artery (quite slim for average folks) if your one of the people with a genetic disorder Like Marfans or Loey Dietz and others there is a risk or tearing or rupturing the artery(s) they use perhaps damage a Valve between the chambers of the heart causing problems that would require some manner of repair including a valve replacement but these are very low numbers of issues. having a conversation with yoru EP prior to ablation should explain these things and address any questions That come to mind Then and there or the ones that come to your mind after he or she tells you you need one... dont be afraid to call the office and ask for answers ASAP before the procedure so you can make your own desision.... for Me MY afib orginally made me exhausted I was on a number of meds already to lower bp and reduce the "pounding" effect of My heart pumping among other things so NOT being active has been all me since 2009 when I delt with My Aorta issues and the right Popliteal Aneurysm surgery many folks dont feel worn out and seem to deal with the afib like normal and IF that were me I think I would lean back away from doing this Until I was feeling bad enough To justify having it done ,,, IN both cases I did say lets do it and the 1st one did well for 2 1/2 years at least ... now post #2 I feel more sinus rythem then prior to the 2nd so I am not displeased, Just wondering how long it will last or If I'll be sporting a pacemaker to keep me in check ... I dont yet know
