Sometimes they are used short-term before surgery but permanent pacemakers are just that. My sister has had one for years, and eventually, I will have one too. There are a few types of pacemakers but they all work the same and they pace your heart either all the time or just when you need it. No matter what type you need go for it. You will be glad that you did. Most everyone on the team tells me they are very glad for their pacemakers and they make them feel so much better. Hugs🤗

Mine is Permanent until the battery runs out then I will need a new one! My Granny had a valve replacement in 1972…She got a straight pacemaker shortly afterward and in Total She outlived Three of them and never had a single issue with it!

I’ve had an ICD (pacemaker and defibrillator) for about 6 months now. It took about two months to feel the difference but it’s way better now. My ventricles weren’t pumping together and the pacing fixes that. Should last about 7 years then I will have it replaced. It’s uncomfortable at times still but made a world of difference

I had a pacemaker inserted 10 years ago. The battery lasted about 8 years. My cardiologist decided I don't need it anymore, but it was left in place. I don't want to have anesthetic if it can be avoided. Doesn't bother me at all. There is a slight bulge where it is seated. It gives peace of mind when you need it
