The pain I am experiencing is usually an 8 out of 10 on a daily basis. I been experiencing this pain since surgery. Sorry, went back to view your posting, NO, it's not normal to have pain (level 8) unless you just had surgery. Right after the surgery it is painful.
But if your still experiencing level 8 pain on the surgical site, after some time (3-4 months) something may be going on.

Yes, it's typical but if it gets worse talk to your doctor.
You have to remember, the surgeon not only cut your skin (several layers) but they also broke bone to get to your heart. The healing process takes a while. I'm a slow healer, it took me several years to stop feeling pain, itching, soreness, etc. Be patient, keep the area clean, if you sweat, shower asap, don't scratch or rub the area, don't put anything on the area to help with healing...it needs to heal naturally.

I had open heart/triple but no pain like you describe. Must be frustrating. If you can get to pain management that might be best bet.
