Follow Up On Weight Gain
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I believe I found my answer to where my 3 lbs of fluid in 24 hrs went. (Lungs). I laid down, and I can't breathe. Have to sit up now. Short of breath, wheezing and using my asthma spray with no results. Fun night ahead. Been getting short of breath all day. Still been a good day 👍

Chad, That sounds good. In the meantime watch your salt very closely that way you will not accumulate so much fluid and you will be much more comfortable. You will find it easier to sleep if you keep your salt in check. Try to keep it to 500mg per meal. It makes a big diffrence. You might be able to avoid drugs if you do that. That said we are al human and we don't always follow the best advice and believe me we pay for it. Hugs

Chad, I always have to sleep with my head elevated. I sleep with 2 pillows every night. CHF is worse when you lie down. The doctor needs to know that and maybe it is time to increase your diuretic. Don't panic but call the doctor first thing on Monday morning and see what they recommend. Are you watching your diet? Eat as little salt as you can that will help you get rid of the sodium and the fluid your body is retaining. 3 lbs in a short time is a lot of fluid retention and would merit a call to the doctor. Hugs

You MUST call your doctor gaining and retaining all that much fluid in 24 hours! You are soon to be in, if not already in CHF!!!! You need IV lasix!!! I have been where you are! More than once! I slept in a recliner for years because I couldn’t breathe! If you feel like you have an elephant on your chest and you sleep better I a recliner go to the ER!!! Don’t play around with CHF! 1. You can die from it! 2. Your heart will be damaged if not treated!

Thank you Caryn, always enjoy your advice. Unfortunately, my family doctor down here will not place me on diuretics for some reason. He is recommending the cardiologist to handle these meds. I have a wait to see the cardiologist (November 17th). Will keep on pressuring him if the swelling gets worse. So far, not so bad. Just uncomfortable at times. He is watching me closely. I appreciate that.

Hey there hope you feel better. Put your body in a 45 degree angle this might help you breathe. Also, maybe get a humidifier to put moisture back into the air.
