Looking up the drug you are on, Ginny, HF, swollen ankles and SOB, are all side effects of the medication in addition to side effects of HOCM, so how do we know what is causing the symptoms, the disease or the drug????

I am not very famaliar with this site and I don't know how to answer individual comments.

Medications that I take:
=================
1) Metoprolol (50mg morning & evening) --- Beta Blocker
2) Valsartan (Diovan) 160mg
-- Angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) Stops muscles surrounding blood vessels from contracting
3) Amlodipine 5mg -- Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB)
--- By blocking the entry of calcium, calcium channel blockers reduce electrical conduction within the heart,
decrease the force of contraction (work) of the muscle cells, and dilate arteries. Dilation of the arteries reduces
blood pressure and thereby the effort the heart must exert to pump blood.
4) Chlorthalidone 25mg --- Diuretic

I am usually doing great; but, I recently was not feeling well and for the last few weeks I've had swelling in my feet, a total lack of energy, and sleepyness. I guess that I'm just slow recovering from the cold or flu that I had.

Your cariologist needs to apply to be in the REM program. The doctor has to follow me very carefully. The first month, my gradient went from 200 to 9. I think about 50 is normal. I went from 5 mg. to 2.5 mg. Then it went back up to 110 which is better but still too high so the doctor put me back on 5mg. I have another echo next Thursday. I am feeling pretty good but every time I feel anything, I don't know if it is my imagination. I am having very little trouble with shortness of breath now which was my symptom. I am more than happy to answer any questions I can.

I hope you are feeling well and have a great day.πŸ˜€

I was diagnosed with HOCM last January (2022) after suffering with shortness of breath for 4 years. My cardiologist only looked for complications of my diabetes and it turns out that the cause is a genetic problem totally unrelated to my diabetes. I had to go to a new cardiologist to finally get a diagnosis.
I am now on Metropolol 200mg, Veripamil, 360mg and Disopyramide 480mg every day. I still get short of breath with too much activity, if I walk at my normal pace, so I have to make myself slow down, so I don’t get SOB.
It is hard as I have gained weight over the COVID quarantine and want to lose weight yet I am puffing and not feeling that I am satiated with oxygen with too much movement, so it is hard to exercise. And I want to be able to walk further, so I can tour with my husband when we go on vacation. Walking on the treadmill works well, because I keep myself at a pace that does not result in me being SOB. I can walk about a half hour right now, I want to build up to longer than that. My old treadmill actually broke on Saturday and I went out and bought a new one that will be delivered by nthe end of the week. So, I am missing my walks until I get my new treadmill.
I get big ankles when I travel long amounts of time in the car, with my legs hanging down. Wearing support socks helps that complication and my ankles are a lot better with support hose. I have not had CHF problems, yet. Fingers Crossed!

Epfsr I'm sorry you're not feeling well! I really believe though that you should tell your cardiologist immediately about your swollen feet. I didn't and this summer I almost died from heart failure! My Hospital saved me with God's grace with a Lasix infusion that took 60 lb of fluid off of my body. Please take care of yourself!
