My wife really wants me to visit my doctor and get medication to stabilize my “post-op mood swings”. I’m really not thrilled about medicating. I am open to input from someone who’s been here.
Had double bypass in March, so we're close in timeline. I share your pain. I have days where I'm sad and anxious. Seems to be getting a bit better, but I plan to discuss it with my cardiologist during my next visit in August.
I had to take an antidepressant because anxiety was out of hand. It has been 2 years since my bypass
My wife wants me to do the same. Thankfully, the last couple of weeks have been better. I see my cardiologist this Wednesday. I will mention the struggles I've had mentally, but that things seem to be getting better on that front. Talking about my struggles has been helpful. And getting back to work and in the gym has also, I believe, been helpful. I wish you well.
Of course you would have situational anxiety swings after surgery, and who wouldn't... I would do talk therapy first... I fell into the worm hole of psych meds... Mild anxiety... to full blown Bi Polar 1.. take More and more meds....my cheerleaders demanded.... I stopped all psych meds in 2015 as I had had it... Also know the difference between mood disorders and situational anxiety....
I'm currently taking two antidepressants one for sleep and the other for depression. I've had survivors guilt and anxiety/depression. I'll be three years out the end of this month since my heart attack and quintuple bypass/ aortic valve replacement, as I mentioned before. You're not alone. Thanks for sharing.
