A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am due to have a procedure to close the hole in my heart In the New year which sounds very much like ablation, which is for Atrial fibrillation which I also have it it the same procedure?

I have AF which is irregular heart beat, mine is in slow AF so at present I have only had Cardio version to re-start the heart into normal beat. I may have an ablation done at some time if I go into fast AF. I have never heard of Ablation done for any other condition like medium sized hole in heart, is quite baffling me,so like you I am curious to know more of why you are having this done!Surely your cardio team could have explained it!

This sounds like me,i have flutter and my heart was in the 120-160 so my husband called ambulance and off I went I stayed for a week till my heart rate came down .I saw my cardiologist and he said he will see me in a year that was in march when my flutter -afib retuned .my heart rate is 40 -80 and I did a ecg and a ultrasound to see if I still have blood clots.

I also have a fib and originally they were going to do an ablation, when it was decided to go for the ICD as I have what my cardiologist refers to as runaway a fib, my heart hate normal is around 40 yet when I have had an episode, my heart rate will jump to 160 plus. thus that is why we did an ICD, right now my heart rate is maintaining an 50 to 55.

Thank you for replying to my question Elisabeth, I was told my my cardiologist that they will cure my AF at the same time. It is very confusing I am going to ring the cardiology team to see if I
Can find out more about it. Also my cardiologist is supposed to be contacting me regarding putting me on some temperate meds Beta blockers was suggested but Asthmatics and patients on heart meds are not supposed to take them. I think it's time some q uestions answered .
