ANTIHYPERTENSIVE
Overview
Widaplik is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), including use as an initial treatment. People who need combination therapy to effectively lower blood pressure may be prescribed Widaplik, either at the start of treatment or if a single medication is not sufficient. Widaplik is also known by its drug name, telmisartan, amlodipine, and indapamide.
Widaplik is an antihypertensive drug that combines three types of medications. Telmisartan blocks angiotensin II receptors, which relaxes blood vessels. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that lowers blood pressure by relaxing the muscles of the heart and blood vessels. Indapamide is a diuretic that helps the body get rid of excess salt and water, reducing blood pressure.
How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Widaplik is taken as an oral tablet once daily. It is available in three dose combinations. After two weeks, a person’s dose may be increased up to the maximum dose if additional blood pressure control is needed. Widaplik should be taken exactly as prescribed by a health care provider.
Side effects
Common side effects of Widaplik include symptomatic hypotension (low blood pressure that causes symptoms), hyponatremia (low sodium levels), and hypokalemia (low potassium levels).
Rare but serious side effects may include acute angle-closure glaucoma (a sudden increase in pressure in the eye), hyperuricemia (high levels of uric acid in the blood, which can lead to gout), and severe hyponatremia accompanied by hypokalemia. Impaired kidney function, electrolyte and glucose imbalances, and allergic reactions such as angioedema (swelling under the skin) may also occur. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Widaplik.
