Digoxin for Heart disease

Overview
Digoxin is a prescription drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat mild to moderate heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Digoxin is often prescribed as an adjunct medicine along with a diuretic and an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Digoxin is sold under the brand names Lanoxin and Digitek.

Digoxin is a digitalis drug. Digitalis drugs are believed to work by increasing the force with which the heart beats and controlling irregular heart rhythms.

How do I take it?
Digoxin is generally taken once a day.

Digoxin comes in tablet form.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Digoxin lists common side effects including headache, dizziness, weakness, depression, anxiety, skin rash, slowed heart rate, enlarged or tender breasts in men, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and diarrhea.

Rare but serious side effects listed for Digoxin include toxicity and new or worsening arrhythmia.
