What are the effects of taking vitamin D supplements daily, especially for someone with heart disease?

Vitamin D plays an important role in overall health, and many people with heart disease find themselves checking their levels. Some MyHeartDiseaseTeam members have shared their experiences β€” one noted that taking vitamin D3 daily with calcium helped bring their levels up significantly.

Here's what's generally known about daily vitamin D supplementation:

- Recommended daily intake is 600 IU (ages 18–70) and 800 IU (over 70)
- Some doctors prescribe higher doses (e.g., 50,000 IU weekly) if a deficiency is detected
- Taking it with food can help your body absorb it better
- Too much vitamin D can cause heart-rhythm abnormalities, nausea, weakness, and other issues For heart disease specifically, early research showed some promising results with vitamin D supplementation, but larger studies have not confirmed that it reduces heart attacks or strokes.

It's always best to ask a doctor to test vitamin D levels before starting any supplement, so the right dose can be determined safely.

Thanks Cliff, and Tisha. I try to keep it looking like a park, and golf course. I hope you all are doing great this morning. Be careful of the humidity. It makes our hearts pump up to 4 times harder to get the blood flowing. I looked it up. Because I struggled a little the next day. I always go to the limits in health, and exercise that I'm drained afterwards even if I drink , and hydrate. I had a triple bypass in June 21. Still hanging in there. I hope to practice guitar in awhile. I'm waiting on the Spurs game tonight too. Stay Blessed my friends.

I'm out in the sun everyday. This was yesterday. I mowed, and trimmed our yard. I'm resting now.
