Is melatonin bad for your heart?
The search results don't contain specific information about melatonin's direct effects on heart health or recent findings about melatonin and cardiovascular risk.
What we do know is that melatonin plays a role in sleep regulation. Some heart medications, particularly beta-blockers, can decrease your body's natural production of melatonin, which may contribute to insomnia and sleep problems.
Since sleep quality is important for heart health, and people with heart disease often struggle with insomnia, it's worth discussing any sleep aids—including melatonin supplements—with your healthcare provider. They can help you weigh potential benefits and risks based on your specific heart condition and medications.
If you're considering melatonin or have concerns about new research findings, talk with your doctor. They can provide personalized guidance about whether it's appropriate for you and won't interact negatively with your heart medications.
