Getting Older
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does heart disease get harder to live with as you get older. I'm only 33 years old. Just thinking how difficult it maybe in 10 years or so.

Hi Brian- Happy Easter to you and yours. That is a very complicated question dependent on your health to begin with, what other medical issues factor in, how well you take care of yourself daily, your genetics, etc. Your age is a plus for healing. What you do for a living, your diet, your environment and living conditions- get where this is going? It would be better to just take care of yourself and educate yourself about your specifics because worry is definitely not good for any of us and anxiety goes with heart problems. None of us know the future or what breakthroughs there will be in 10 years, especially if AI lives up to the hype. I'm sorry you have this concern at your age. I'm glad you are reaching out. God bless you.

Hi Brian……In my heart…..I think your future can be very rich & fullfilling. I know a lot of seniors who have had heart disease a good portion of their life & continue to be busy & a lot of folks wouldn’t even know they have heart issues. You can help the cause by respecting the fact you have to be a little protective of your heart……eat a healthier ………( but not a boring ) diet, get some excerise, have only an occasional drink if you enjoy them, stop smokeing if you smoke, get your rest & let your heart doctor be your guide. Brian…..I don’t know what your problems are……but your quality of life depends a great deal on you & your personal choices in your journey. Gooooooood luck……what you do today depends on your quality of Tomorrow 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Brian, I can’t really answer your question from personal experience bc I wasn’t diagnosed until my 60s. What I THINK would be harder would be to take it seriously; when I was young I would have thought that was surely not possible and go on my merry way, eating everything I shouldn’t and living the way young people do. I hope you took this as a wake up call and are willing to follow your doctors advice, bc as Bridgette said, it’s partly up to you to take good care of yourself. Some on this site have lived with heart issues their whole life so it certainly is possible. We can only do the best we can and no one can expect more. Regardless of our diagnoses, we’ve all had to make adjustments to our old lifestyle, fatigue is one of the most common complaints and having to spit out anything that tastes good! Please keep us posted on how you’re doing , ok? Have a good weekend.
