Need Advice About Doctors And Surgery
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question đź’

Hi everyone! I have a dilemma and am looking for advice. Last month I had an echocardiogram. When I visited my cardiologist he said that it is getting close to the time for a heart valve replacement. He scheduled another echo for November. I figured at that time I'd start taking the tests to see if I qualified for TAVR. This week I visited my internist. He said I should go to the University of Michigan for any surgery and advised me to schedule an appointment right away. My cardiologist… read more

You could have a consult with each surgeon to get their recommendations and judge who you are most comfortable with. I think you will always do better with confidence in the methods and doctors. I changed cardiologist but stayed with the oblation specialist referred by the doctor I left. Everyone agreed and I had a successful outcome. Proceed with confidence and let no one intimidate you.

That is a very good question. I would do what is best for you whether or not you change doctors is up to you. I love my cardiologist because she tells it like it is. She does not mince words and for that I am happy.

I'd go for a second opinion. Where are you located? My cardiologist is a sweetheart. And so is my surgeon. The best advice I can give you is ask people you trust. What I did, because I was getting conflicting diagnosis and recommendations was, throw it back to them and ask " if it was their family member, what would they recommend."

I would go to UofM. Also consult all physicians involved and one take the lead. I am scheduled to go to Vanderbilt in Nashville on July 28 for all of the pre testing necessary to have the TAVR procedure done. For several years I have been living half time in Tennessee and half time in Florida. I have cardiologists in both paces and see them both every year. I feel more secure having the work done up at Vanderbilt since I have had help with my heart there since I had a heart attack back in 2001. Everyone I know of who has had this procedure done has been happy with their results.
