Lung Fluid Buildup
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have congestive heart failure and fluid on my lungs. I'm using lasic meds daily to drain that fluid. I wonder what causes the fluid build up on my lungs and if I will be on lasics from now on?

Tom, Good luck. I too have heart failure so I get it. Never fun but if you take care of yourself you can stop it from getting too much worse. Let me know If I can answer questions about it for you. I too take Lasix and so far it seems to work well. The only downside is I know all the bathrooms in town. 😉

Tom, According to Penn Medicine. "When the heart is not able to pump efficiently, blood can back up into the veins that take blood through the lungs. As the pressure in these blood vessels increases, fluid is pushed into the air spaces (alveoli) in the lungs." The Lasix you take is a diuretic and that treats fluid retention and that keeps the fluid from backing up into your lungs. I suspect you will be on this drug for a while but that really is a question to ask your doctor because it depends on the severity of your heart failure. Hugs🤗
