What Advice Would You Give To Some Recently Diagnosed With An Aortic Aneurysm?

I am at 4.2 centimeters. Doctor said if it gets over 5.0 we'll talk options, most likely another open heart surgery. Until, we'll monitor it yearly. Not what I wanted to hear.

I had my aneurism rupture 3 years ago Jan 2020 , had emergency open surgery to save my life . I didn’t know I had a problem till it happened , I feel very blessed to be here , my advise would be to stay on top of it with your doctor so the can treat it accordingly . My life has forever changed but I’m dealing with it and trying to stay positive . Good luck with your future .

RonRose that's a fantastic story and its important to help the others Understand that while having a dissection Is troublesome once your diagnosed Then YOU have to follow seriously how to best serve your health for those of us who are Blessed to have survived the worst of the worst ( just a handfull of compared to rest of the "group" we can only suggest to them how best to increase survivability by sharing realistic expectations, setting yourself up for success, in Location, ability to get to (medical facilities) that can actually help save your life, a overall team of doctors who are specialists in the sub sub specialties between Thoracic and Vascular depending on the individual's situation.... very complex situation for anyone to find themselves in !!! I am glad to hear that your doing well, and pray your good health continues, dont become complacent either, its easy to do best of luck to you...

I was taken to BJCi in St Louis Mo. from St Charles Mo. 30 +- miles went to the hospital in st Charles first they wanted to airlift me to BJC but was to foggy so was sent in ambulance . By that time my kidneys were shutting down and rift leg was getting numb . Had emergency open heart surgery to repair aorta and a surgery on my leg to get circulation back . Needless to say I dodged a bullet and doing well now

1st RonRose You and I are what My thoracic surgeon called me a extremely lucky 8%er because I also survived a Unknown Undiagnosed Ascending Aortic rupture with full Tampinaude and with a blood pressure Upon arrival at the Trauma center which was 2 mmofM above the "No coming back" (generally speaking 60/30) That being said i'm interested to know which hospital Were you near enough to arrive in time after a rupture and survive? for me Yale... one of the most Important answers to these folks who Might not fully understand the depth and seriousness of and difference between a "aneurysm, dissection and rupture"

I was diagnosed on 2 December (the day before my 52nd birthday) with an aortic aneurysm 11 years ago and was not expected to survive the night as they could only operate the next day. The cardiac surgeon slept in the bed next to me in case he had to perform an emergency op during the night. I now have 15cm of artificial aorta leading straight out of my heart. Oh, and as nothing ever goes as planned with me, I had a fit on the op table and missed my birthday, Christmas and New Year as I was in a coma for 34 days.
You will hear a lot of platitudes, especially from people who don't understand what you are going through. Listen to your doctors, they have knowledge. Do not be afraid to get a second opinion. Remain a positive attitude. Remember, everything in moderation. God bless.
