I was on Metoprolol for many years. I was also having serious problems with shortness of breath. I recently found out it can affect lung function. So my new cardiologist switched me to Diltiazem. Everything improved. Everything!

The first blood pressure medication my cardiologist prescribed was metoprolol. It wasn’t very long after when I noticed the ringing in my ears, mainly my left ear. I do believe that the medication gave this to me; tinnitus. I have since researched this medication and read that anything ending in olol is not good for you. Also read that metoprolol is one of the worst blood pressure medications to take. I was put on a different medication, but of course the tinnitus will probably never go away now! I wouldn’t recommend taking metoprolol.

Rose,
I was put on it after diagnosed with AFIB. 25 mg at first extended release but wasn't taking it for blood pressure but taking it for rate control. Had to cut tablet in half as my heart rate was in low 40's and felt like doodoo. So I've been on it for 3 years and tolerating it okay I guess. My resting heart rate is 55 to 57 bpm, my sleeping heart rate is 51-52. Cardiology considering removing it to get my heart rate up, but I think its the only thing keeping me sane at this point. I've given up some bad habits that I took to de-stress. Smoking cigarettes was my nasty habit and quit drinking alcohol in 2009. But I take Chlorthalidone for my blood pressure.

Doesn’t do a lot for my BP. It will lower your heart rate. Had a physician assistant that kept increasing it because of BP but my heart rate got so low that it was waking me up at night. So he told me to take it all in the am still doing the same thing. Got a doctor that cut it in half and started me on lisinopril, did echocardiogram and found out I had heart failure. The metoprolol keeps my heart rate at a good level now. But yes I understand although I have no parameters set either I think they should give parameters
