Farxiga Medication
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

My Dr. was telling me about the drug Farxiga used for heart failure with reduced EF, and that it was a promising drug. He said it is used a lot with patients that has diabetes, but has found to help without diabetes, for heart failure. I already take entresto and a beta blocker and don't want to really take another drug to feel badly, for I also take 5mg every other night of statin. Drugs, drugs, drugs; from no drugs much to all pills. Has anyone taken Farxiga,? I think it has not been out to… read more

I know how stressful it is when a new drug is recommended by your doctor, my list of drugs for my heart, diabetes and RA are getting longer and more complicated as I age, but I’m thankful for the research that is done so that I have a better chance to live longer. I talk to my doctors and try to learn as much as I can about the drug snd I pay attention to my body so I can detect if things have changed. Trust in your health care and talk about your fears, usually your doctor can help you to feel at ease.

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member,
It's not AMA nor AHA approved and I hate that some doctors try to push them on patients. I know that a nurse practitioner should not be trying to put patients on anything without your doctors orders. The nurse practitioner is not supposed to change anything. My cardiologist had one working for him like that and nearly did me in. She stopped my rehab and stopped half of my meds. The only thing a nurse practitioner can do is write a script for medications already in your file.
Take care,
Robin

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member,
The problem is the FDA, they are approving the most expensive of meds but none can be taken alone to treat anything. They are still testing the med and are pushing it at doctors and the patients are paying to be their test subjects. It is not proven to treat heart failure but when it was causing so many problems with diabetes the move to heart patients. My cardiologist will only give me those meds that are AMA and AHA approved. The bottom line is your heart is improving because you're taking the other medications with it.
Take care,
Robin

MsB my cardiologist keeps me on older reliable drugs. For what I have and the machine I have. I don't think there's many studies done with some of the new drugs that are out. She stays with the things that she knows that work. Just putting it out there.
