SG, what a great post. Pharmacology is a powerful thing with so many side affects that I feel too many doctors don't consider and mostly are ignorant of. I hope you find answers that provide benefits. 😎

I'm newly diagnosed so I'm no expert on heart disease but I have been battling other diseases for 34 years and have experienced a bit related to your question.
Medications can cause problem and it can be rare enough that specialists don't even know a medication can affect mental health or personality. Also drugs and even vitamins can interact together to cause problems. Most people with chronic disease/pain will have at least some depression. This can appear in many ways especially if the patient has not experienced mental illness before and also since mental illness still carries taboos in many people's minds.
One last thing, my adopted father had hypertension for most of his adult life. When he got a new doctor and had all his drugs changed his personality changed drastically. Years after he had a stroke and heartattack few days later, he was 85 but turned into a swearing, very naughty young teen. He had temper tantrums and broke things in his rages. Turns out he was having something called silent strokes. After he would have them he changed with the temper. He was probably also frustrated with life and my mother was a nagger and once he had the stroke he couldn't get a break.
So my point being, it took many years to diagnose the silent strokes, medication changed etc. So much can affect a person and their caregiver. If your dr is not giving you a satisfying answer then ask him to refer your hubby to someone who will answer your questions. Always keep track of drugs, dates and even new personality changes. The answer might be obvious.

Jim Jenkins. your correct. The combination of drugs could also be the cause. We are all different and and react different I have been on antidepressants for35 plus years. I have tried several times to stop them. Within 6 months , I become easily agitated, angry, confrontational, all of which is out of the norm for me. I finally came to terms with the fact it is a chemical imbalance in the brain, something I cant change

I tell people that if they don't give us a acronim behind our name we don't count. Meaning I have heard about Bi Polar, Depression, and I ask "can you have delusions of grandure if the idea actually materializes and works when nobody said it would. Take comfort ❤️

Mental health is definitely affected by illness. I had a defibrillator implanted in 2002 at the age of 44. I became very paranoid and began to believe that my doctors were experiementing on me. I became a very difficult patent to deal with and was eventually blackballed by all the cardiologists in the area.......I had to travel almost 200 miles for routine care. Finally in 2010 I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder....but not before I totally messed up my life both personally and professionally. ( I am a nurse). Things have been better since I started on antipsychotic medication. My psych doctor says the mental health issue is genetic but we both agree that the genes can be activated by stress. Being sick with heart trouble is very stressful.
