Pacemakers
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Why do doctors recommend pacemakers? I have had Bradycardia for a few years now. My resting heart rate is in low 50's. I stay pretty active, exercise, diet is good, weight is great, blood pressure under control, EF 68%, cholesterol LDL is 88, 44 HDL, trig 170, walk a little over a mile 7 days a week and try to Golf a few times a week. My shallow breathing is keeping my Carbon Dioxide in my blood at the top of normal. I have periods where I can't take a deep breath and of course anxiety creeps in… read more

Key Word"anxiety" who ever designed it needs to be gone. It is horrible, especially when you already have Heart Issues. Good luck and "just breath"

Interesting!?! My dealings with my anxieties tell me that anxiety has a huge effect on our bodies...which would include our breathing. Being aware that you have an issue COULD cause it to become worse! That tends to happen with my blood pressure...where upon one cardiologist told me to "throw that damn thing away", referring to my BP reader at home! Another cardiologist said to me, " as long as you can walk normally, and talk at the same time, you are ok". Unfortunately, our heart problems create many stresses on out bodies, as well as our minds...all of which are real if they affect our styles of living. Keep your doctors aware of any questions! There are never any dumb questions...but sometimes the answers might be!

As a side note: function and lung FUNCTION are inter-related, which means that even though your lungs are "normal", their function MAY be compromised by your heart function...in my opinion, and I am not a doctor.

To keep your heart rate from possibly going lower, thereby not pumping enough oxygen throughout your body, I would imagine the doctors want the pacemaker as a preventative precaution against that happening. It would have a built-in threshold where it would stimulate the heart to encourage a higher beat rate. This is my opinion and explanation .

Hello pacemaker, I hope you post when you ask your cardiologist about deep breath, I sometimes find myself trying to catch a deep breath, I know it could be meds, anxiety, or my heart issues. Things are just not the same as before heart incident. Blessing. PS, like you said the weather and pollen is also part of it.
