Was Your First Heart Attack The One And Only? ...or Was It Just The Beginning Of A Bunch Of Cardiac Issues?

I had an LAD heart attack with 1 stent put in on may 11 2020. I’m feeling pretty good but wonder if that was the sum total...or is it merely the gateway to other issues.

Hi Alice,
Me again, lol. My Dad was 46 when he had his first heart attack and it killed him. He had an upside down heart that kept him out of the military, which he wanted to enter. He had symptoms the day before. He went to visit my grandfather at a hospital, and he couldn't hold a bag of coffee he was carrying. His arm bothered him all night and my mother said when she gets back from unemployment she was going to call the doctor. When she got home a policeman was waiting for her in front of our house. He told her my Dad died at work. In 1958 there was no mention of cholesterol or even symptoms about heart problems. My Dad went to the doctors in Feb. of that year and the doctor put him on a diet because he was a bit over-weight. He lost the weight by April and died Sept. 2, 1958. No warnings except his arm hurt him. They said it was coronary thrombosis. His brothers, 4 of them, all died of heart attacks, but one of his brothers had a heart attack in his 30's or 40's and by that time things were better known about heart attacks, and he lived to 77.

Sorry I know I talk too much. Hope everyone is feeling good and having a good Labor Day.

I knew I had a bicusip aortic valve, but was told it would be a long time before I needed replaced that was when I was 57. I had a suggested cardiac workup including an stress echo, nuclear stress test and abdominal ultrasound. I was on statins for my cholesterol and baby asprin a day. All my tests came back negative for any coronary artery disease, except the bicsupid aortic valve.
Three years later at 60 I had my MI, followed by CABG x 5 and replacement of my aortic valve. There is no cardiac history in my family. I'm not a big fan of stress tests or nuclear stress tests. I'm doing fine for now, I guess it's a waiting game to see if any else develops in the future.

Hi Alice my father died at age 49 and his four or five other siblings also died between 49-51 years of age. I made it to age 68 but then had symptoms in my left arm going down to my hand and neck. Turns out I needed a triple bypass in December 2018. Never thought it would happen to me because I was always the one promoting healthy eating.

Unfortunately my legacy has a lot to do with my heart problems. Both parents, all of my mother’s siblings and my younger brother died from heart disease. My older brother got his first stent last year. My heart issues started a year after my brother died but I recognized the signs and got help before I had a heart attack. I got stents in 2013, 2014, and 2019, and triple bypass in 2017. I can prolong events with healthy choices. I know many people who have had a heart attack who go years without issues. I know it will always be in the back of your mind but don’t let it keep you from living. Keep making healthy choices. It will help you in the long run.

I Alice, my heart attack so far was my one and only. It was May 8, 2020, and I have one stent. Foolishly I thought if you had a heart attack, and the gave you a stent, and meds, that if you ate healthy and exercised you could live a normal life. But now after reading everyone's stories it just seems it is the beginning of things to come.
Welcome here the people are very nice.
Have a great day.
