On day I was fine and the next day I was diagnosed with heart failure. The emergency doctor just told me after four hours of investigation that I was in complete heart failure and then walked away! I was dumb founded. I knew what a heart attack and stroke were but I had know idea what heart failure was. After I collected myself I googled a reliable resource (Mayo Clinic) and moved forward. I spent 8 days in two hospitals and when I was released I was told "it was up to me now" It was mostly about lifestyle. When I left the hospital my EF was 20. I stopped caffeine, sugar and salt. I swam every day, starting by doing 15 lengths of the pool increasing to 60 ( I am a good swimmer but slow and I was doing and easy breast stroke). I also started an easy keto regime with the blessings of my two doctors. In 9 months I lost 40 lbs and brought my EF back up to 60 and I felt good. I read the articles about the average 5 year life span after diagnoses and it scared the s#*% out of me. The closure of our pool for two years of work and covid has not been easy. I have bad knees and can not walk well or for long. Advocate for your self and find a good pharmacist. If your drugs have bad side effects tell your doctor, there are other drugs that can be used.
I am now 7 years past my diagnosis.
P.S. For those with a cough, it is a sign of later stage heart failure when there is fluid build up and if you are female and are taking Remipil as part of your regime it causes a terrible dry cough, there are alternatives.
As Grannypal said don't stress do what you can do, eat well, exercise moderately and regularly and get good sleep.🙂

Hang in there and stay on top of your medical. It’s not easy but follow the dietary, fluid and exercise regimens you may be given. Yes the prognosis of HF is five years. There are a lot of people on this site who have beat that. Find them and ask questions. I am determined to not let HF defeat me or define me. I record everything pertinent to my care - daily vitals (BP and pulse oxygen level, weight, temperature) and salt intake. Also ask about sleep apnea, since getting that diagnosis and an APAP machine I sleep more soundly and have more energy. Sounds like you have a great motivator for learning to live with HF your child. Make great memories with him/her, and keep fighting. Daily exercise (even just a short walk) will also help. One of the best things for me was getting cardio rehab, it really changed my perspective! Wishing you the best!

Sorry for your loss, but that's how I found out about my heart failure, FATIGUE and just not feeling like myself. Dr ran some test and that's what it was. Just think positive and Pray for favorable results. Take your meds and try not to dwell on it, STRESS plays a big part in controlling some of your issues.
