Pacemaker Incision Site
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a Pacemaker for A Fib put in on 10/08/19. It is still sore , and turning darker, plus the skin around it feels very rough.

Anne, I watch what I wear so I won't have alot of rubbing. I had someone tell me about a pad you can attach to your bra strap so it doesn't bother the incision site. I bought several of these for on my bras. It has really made a difference. If you are interested, I can find the information and post it. I still have 3 more years left on my device. I've had it for 8 years so far. My device never went off. It was put in as a precaution since my heart failure cardiologist really thought I would have Afib by now. My first device only lasted 5 years before the battery was running out. I am pleased I am getting more time on the device I have now.

Don't worry, it clears up quickly. Do not reach above your head until the stitches heal.

I'm on my second pacemaker/defibulator. The site where the drs. placed is always sore. It healed nicely but just uncomfortable. I watch what I wear so the clothing doesn't rub against it. Also I can't lay face down without problems. I have to sleep on my back. I've gotten used to it over the years.
