Statins And Muscle Pain
A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I suffer from hyperlipidemia & familial high cholesterol, it is imperative I take my meds, @Lipitor and Zetia. My muscle pain and weakness is debilitating. I was tested for the muscle and tissue breakdown and was negative yet I suffer from the soreness. I needed authorization for refill which took a week and another week bc the pharmacy failed to order my meds. In that week being off the meds, no more pain. I then tried all the natural supplements, same story...sore. No matter my diet, I… read more

I have a problem with high cholesterol. As the new member said the statons that are prescribed cause a lot pain in the legs. It was difficult to walk so I discontinued them. I am not saying that anyone should do the same, but I couldn'/ handle the pain anymore. I went to see my cardiologist. She wasn't pleased with me, but, I can'/ take the cholesterol pills. She suggested low calorie milk products, small pieces of meat and lots of veggies and fruit. Thought I would pass that on.
For your heart exercise is very important,,I love to walk so what do you do.
I often think of what my daughter told me. She said a cardiologist sees heart and veins . We are made of much more then that.
All the best to the new member, I still feel moderation in everything is the answer.

I had debilitating muscle pains and could not dress myself doctor saw Crestor on my drug list and told me to discontinue for one week and return to the office.
In one week I was feeling almost brand new.

Switched to atorvastatin and doing great.

There is a new cholesterol medication that is an injection. You can take it every other week or once a month. It supposedly has less side effect than taking medication by mouth. It is called Repatha. If you can get the savings coupon from your doctor it will cost you 5 dollars for your prescription. Talk to your cardiologist about it. I am waiting for my medicine to come in the mail.
